We all dream of success, we all work hard to attain that goal but do we ever look at the image we are creating as we walk down the street, post a blog or upload a photo onto a website? MLM success is directly tied to the MLM image you create.
I read a story, the author’s name has been forgotten, but it doesn’t matter. The message was what I remember. I’ll retell the story, although I don’t have the gift of story telling the way the author did.
A man was walking down the street, enjoying the warm sunshine, the beautiful breeze. To his right, sitting on a bench was a man, poorly dressed, fingernails dirty, a hole in the top of his shoes where his big toe stuck out. As the man approached closer he could detect an unpleasant aroma and he neatly moved to the edge of the sidewalk as far as possible from the smell. To his surprise the man on the bench jumped up, shuffled right up beside him and waved some papers in his face, telling him he needed to read this, it would change his life, he could become a huge success if he would join him in this venture! Gingerly, between two fingers he accepted the brochure, thanked the man and 20 paces down the street dropped it into a garbage can on the corner of the street. Unread, unconcerned he continued on his walk.
A couple of blocks further on, the exact same scenario happened with a slight difference. The man sitting on the bench, offering him a brochure was cleanly dressed with a look of prosperity about him. This is where the story takes a totally different path. The man out for a stroll, accepted the brochure, stopped to chat, promised to read it and exchanged business cards with the clean cut gentleman who’d offered him the information.
Little did the man know but the scruffy looking man had a much better opportunity to help him fulfill his desire of being financially free. Little did the man know the second offer presented to him had far more pitfalls, more “gotchas” in the contract, less chances of financial success. He was swayed by the “image” presented by both men.
It is crucial to look at the image you are projecting. Most people respond to the first impression they receive. Your writing, your page design, your pictures have to be carefully thought out. What type of an image am I projecting? Am I the scruffy man with typographical errors in my blogs? Or the picture the family thinks is hillarious – Does it fit the image of a successful entrepreneur? Is your vocabulary that of a successful network marketer or do you never finish a sentence with a period? Does your i look like this or is it a bold statement “I” will help you fulfill your dreams.
Your image will determine whether people have the confidence to follow you, to join you. Be careful with it. Once the first impression is created it’s hard to change it (If not impossible). U are important and can help others so be a “You” instead of a U. Be an “I” instead of an “i”. Your spelling and sentence structure is important. If it’s not your strength, ask someone else to proofread it for you.
Afterall it is your image. Make it a good one.
To your success,

Great story, Joyce!
And so pertinent to professional network marketers.
I’ll make a personal confession. When I visit someone’s blog, for example, and all I see is one grammatical error after another, poor sentence structure, etc., I know I’ll never return again.
I realize no one’s perfect. However, when it comes to the image you portray as a network marketer and business owner … first impressions count!
